Lumia Unveils Ultra-Light Wearable That Tracks Real-Time Blood Flow to the Brain
Lumia 2 aims to offer consumers new insights into energy, focus, and fatigue using behind-the-ear sensors developed with ivy-league research institutions
Boston-based health technology company Lumia is introducing Lumia 2, an ear-based wearable designed to measure real-time blood flow to the head — a physiological factor the company argues is central to cognitive performance, energy levels, and fatigue.
The device, weighing less than one gram, can be worn as a smart earring or ear cuff. Lumia says its sensor placement behind the ear, near the brain and major arteries, enables more accurate blood-flow readings than traditional wrist- or finger-based monitors.
Originally offered only to clinical patients, the consumer version of the device provides continuous data showing how blood flow changes in response to daily factors such as meals, caffeine, stress, physical activity, sleep quality, and hydration. The company says these insights can help users understand how everyday behaviors influence cognitive clarity and overall well-being.
Lumia also disclosed that it has secured $7 million in new investment and $5.1 million in grant funding, bringing its total capital raised to $17 million.
Lumia 2 is scheduled to launch on November 18.
